A Cosmetic Tip!

hair products

If you tend to experience break-outs along your hair line or in your hair; stop using hairspray for a few weeks and see what happens! That supper sticky substance clogs your pores and then BAM - nasty things start to erupt.

Cut out the crap and you might suddenly find that things start to clear up. Once they do, introduce chemical-free products back into your life one at a time; that way you'll know if your skin reacts to anything!

Product of the Week: Perfectly Pleasant Puppy Pampering

Every week I share a green product that is great for humans; I've decided that showing a little love to man's best friend is definitely over due!

Therefore, today we have.....

Bowser's Bubbles!

"The liquid dog shampoo cleans and moisturizes your furry friend's skin while supplying nutrients to their coat. It is made with a blend of coconut oil, nettle extract, aloe vera and vitamin A. 240ml/8oz."

This fabulous product works like a charm, leaving the dogs coat clean and soft. Just ask my sister's puppy; she's so fuzzy that sometimes you mistake her for a giant dust bunny. The dog... not my sister.

It is a great product which I heartily recommend.

There is also one for cats, a bar of pet soap and a variety of other pet related products which can be found HERE.

See you Wednesday!

Product of the Week: Eucalyptus Rub

Well, I hate to say it but winter is here. I can tell you this for a fact because my nose has been stuffed up for about two weeks. The only time I get any relief is when I do the dishes! (I add a drop of eucalyptus essential oil to the dish water.)

I really need to start taking more baths, (I'll be able to do the same thing to the bath water.)

Unfortunately, since I can't lug around a pot of steaming water with me wherever I go, I decided it was time to come up with an alternate solution for my forays into the outside world! I'm not a big fan of the chemical laden rubs that are in our drugstores so I was pretty tickled pink when I realized that there was an alternative!

Eucalyptus Rub!!

"This rub is soothing for colds, chest and nasal congestion and is safe for use on children. Our product utilizes eucalyptus, wintergreen and peppermint essential oils. Avoid turpentine, a known neurotoxin, used by other leading congestion rub brands. 40 g / 1.4 oz"

This rub comes from the fabulous Canadian company Only Green, so I know it must be fabulous!

I can't wait to test it out!

Find out more about this product.

Thanks for tuning in, I'll see you on Wednesday!

Scent-sational! Nose friendly scents for the whole family...

peppermint

The problem with so many scents these days is that they are made from a plethora of artificial substances. Many people can't handle the chemicals that are used to create these scents and their bodies react in a variety of unpleasant ways.

Certain scents might make it hard to breathe, irritate your skin, your nose, etc... And many, especially in perfumes and bath products, are just downright potent, and not in a good way!

If you're one of those people who can't stand such blatantly artificial scent creations, never fear! The key, when it comes to scents, is to get back to the roots. Some of the most delectable smells come straight from nature, and no amount of doctoring or tweaking is going to make them any better.

You can still whisk away those icky smells that crop up in your house without using terrible products like 'febreze', 'lysol' bathroom sprays and those gag worthy 'glade plug-ins'. (I speak the truth, honest!!)

Think back to the wonderful scents that emerges when you cut open an orange, brew some mint tea or bake with cloves - aaah, so good! These wonderfully natural scents, (and more), can all be captured exactly as they are meant to smell, and used in whatever way you so desire. The key is essential oils.

An essential oil is essentially (hehe) the essence of a plant. (That clarifies things perfectly doesn't it?) The oil of the plant (and thus the scent) is usually extracted by distillation; this results in an intensely concentrated liquid. This oil can then be used to add a natural scent to many different things.

Because it's fun to know; Essential oils are also sometimes known as volatile oils, ethereal oils or aetherolea.

Some of the best organic essential oils (at great prices) come from Mountain Rose Herbs -- an organic company that sells phenomenal products!

Shopping!

Recently we talked about shopping around for organic foods in your hometown -- so what about the things you can't find locally?

The web is a great way to find new companies and order products that you simply can't get by visiting your local grocery store. There are many places that sell organic products, products that are chemical free or eco-friendly; you simply need to know where to look.

I have been compiling a list of green/eco/organic companies that will ship to Canada; they are currently all located under the 'Green Products' tab at the top. Eventually, once the list has grown, I will split them out into different categories, but for the moment they are all together.

Some, like 'Only Green' are actually based out of Canada (I would prefer to feature these so if you know of more Canadian companies, please don't hesitate to let me know), others simply ship here.

I will continue to add new companies to this list, though I probably won't mention it when I do, so please check it every once and a while.

As I try out the companies I have listed, I will post 'Company Reviews' to share my opinion of them! For example, you can find the company review for Only Green, Here.

Are there certain products you have been looking for? Anything from organic foods to eco-friendly household goods? Just send me a quick message! I've been spending a lot of time researching companies so I might just have come across what you are looking for!

Product of the Week: Thermal Porcelain Cup

"Thermal porcelain cup with tight-fitting silicone top. Looks identical to the paper cup, but it's not!  Eco-friendly and reusable, and it's double-walled so it doesn't get hot to the touch like the original paper cup. Dishwasher safe. Fits in any cupholder that a paper one would."

This great product is pretty self explanatory - the logic runs along the same lines as using a tote bag rather than plastic bags when shopping. The more we can reduce our dependency on disposable items, the better off this planet will be.

If you fill up on your way to work, then simply have the restaurant fill up your cup instead of theirs, (they won't mind). Bring it to work with you and use it instead of the paper or syrofoam cups that they have on hand!

Not only will you be helping to cut down on the amount of junk that finds its way into a landfill; you won't burn your fingers on an overly hot surface.

This cup would also make a fabulous gift for any eco-concious friend!

CHECK IT OUT.

Company Review: Only Green

I have been happily using Only Green products for several years now, and I have to say that I absolutely love what they have to offer.

A few of my favorites products are in their cosmetic line; it's so important to be conscious of what we put on our skin and not just in our bodies. Their cosmetics are empty of those terrible additives and heavy metals that we want to avoid, they are gentle on the skin and comparative to many expensive cosmetic brands.

I have been using them for over a year including the foundation, lip gloss and eyeshadow and I haven't had a single problem. My skin is healthy, the prices are great and I love the way I look and feel while using their products.

Their body care products are of equal quality, my favorite is their bar soap. Most soaps leave my skin feeling tight and dry, but I haven't had that problem since I switched over. They also come in several refreshing and clean scents which you are guaranteed to fall in love with!

I also frequently use their cleaners; all of which are empty of harmful chemicals. The dish detergent cleans brilliantly and lasts for what I suspect could accurately be called a coons age. You hardly need more than a drop in a whole sink-full!

Have I mentioned that Only Green is a Canadian company with Canadian products? Cause they sure are!
